Lucy Charaneka

Born 31st December 1996

in Sydney, Australia.

Completed Bachelor’s of Fine Arts at the National Art School-located in Darlinghurst, of Sydney, Australia- in 2019 with a major in Painting.

Attained Master’s of Fine Arts degree in 2021 at Sydney’s UNSW Art and Design(COFA), with the specific studio elective of painting.

Lucy also completed a number of additional certifications in various fields within the branches of Fine Arts Studio Practice, Visual and Contemporary Arts and Art History and Theory including:

certificate IV, V, and VI of Contemporary Art- Artistic Practice in 2018 at TAFE NSW, as well as certificates in Visual Arts - Studio and applied Practice, Art History Theory, Advanced Technical Skills in Design and Illustration at TAFE NSW in 2018.

Lucy studied and worked within various sub departments working with Mixed Photographic and non Photographic Media and Printmaking and has worked within a selection of educational institutions including UNSW Art and Design, Waverley Woollahra Art School and National Art School with noteworthy success in the field of Painting and printmaking.

Lucy’s interest and primary focus is largely focussed on traditional Fine Art Studio Practices and is very energetic and expressive in the’full-body’, ‘wholehearted’ approach she applies to all areas of her art-making practice. Lucy’s highly emotive content often driving many of her projects is explored using various mediums but largely pertaining to Drawing, Painting and Printmaking mediums. lucy use of physical movement, application and choices of her use of materials carries large degrees of similarity with those applied by several artists categorically known as artists of the Expressionism and Surrealism movement. Regardless of her chosen medium Lucy’s technical artistic approach is highly Expressive and gestural whilst also incorporating large amounts of grounding from her education and experience of traditional drawing practices with knowledge of proportion, Perspective, and other major elements studied largely in traditional practices of Realism drawing and Painting. Lucy’s printmaking practices such as woodblock etching and engraving, and etching on metal plates but has also shown a developing fascination in incorporating the traditional printmaking practices with elements of modern photographic media to create a layering effect if you will through the mediums.

Lucy has gained numerous accreditation in the Drawing and Painting Department in 2021 and 2022 at the Waverley Woollahra Art School in Sydney, Australia- in Fine Arts Studio elective Drawing from Life, Painting in Acrylics and Oils and Painting from Life in 2022.

Primarily a drawer and painter, Lucy’s artistic practice is not limited to the above as she identifies in her fondness and experience using the traditional and contemporary mediums of painting, drawing and illustration, printmaking, photography and digital design, poetry and creative literature.
